WOLF AWARENESS WEEK OVERVIEW
This Classroom Program is designed to teach students about the importance of protecting the earth, its environment, and individual habitats. The study explores these concepts by focusing on The Wolf. Teachers may choose from 1 to 5 day studies with specific activities chosen as needed.
Day 1 - Sungmanitu
Sungmanitu, a Native American characterization, will share the concepts of the environment. This presentation covers the point of view of the Europeans compared to the Native Culture. Sungmanitu shares his encounter the wolves, how wolves are misunderstood, and his work to protect them. This activity meets the needs of small or large groups.
Day 2 - The Wolf
Students will learn about the wolf. The activity covers the biology, family, communication, hunting, and habits of the wolf. Students view videos and participate in classroom activities.
Day 3 - Story Telling
The third day is dedicated to story telling. The stories are in the tradition of the NW Native American Culture. The discussion also includes the geography and climate of the region, and how that impacts on the culture.
Day 4 - Mask Making
Students will create their own Wolf Mask in the tradition of the NW Native Cultures. This activity teaches Not only is this good for sharing the art concepts of symmetry, form, pattern, and color concept. It is also a great time for cooperative learning.
Day 5 - Wolf Hunt
This is a game to show the students how wolves hunt. Even more important it shows the interaction of a11 the members of a habitat, and how they affect one another. The human impact is also included here.
